Kellys Point Hire are proud to be providing equipment for the restoration works at Warrenpoint Municipal Park (aka Warrenpoint Play Park) as part of the large project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council successfully applied for and received funding of £850,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Parks for People Programme towards the project.

The Main Contractor on the project, and customer of Kellys Point Hire Quinn Automatic Ltd started work on the restoration and regeneration project in February 2018, and works are expected to be completed by July / August 2018.

The project will safeguard the park’s many historic features: the listed bandstand, which is one of the finest remaining examples in Northern Ireland, will be carefully restored; the Pavilion Building, which dates from the 1930s, will be re-established as an Interpretive Centre; the original planting will be reinstated and pathways will be resurfaced. A new coherent range of street furniture will also be installed as part of the works to include lighting, seats, bins, a park shelter, park notices and signage.

The children’s play area will be upgraded with the installation of new play equipment and play surfaces and the tennis courts will be upgraded to an informal games area with specialist surfacing for tennis and other games.

All in all, this is a brilliant project for the council to have received funding for, and Kellys is proud, not just as a company that's involved with the project, but as members of the community of Warrenpoint, to see such an iconic and important part of Warrenpoint's heritage being restored and revamped, and we're looking forward to seeing the progress over the next few months.
